Radon is an invisible and odorless gas that is formed when the radioactive element radium decays. So-called radon daughters are formed when the gas in turn decays. These radioactive metal atoms cause serious health effects. Long-term exposure to radon increases the risk of developing cancer. In Sweden, over 500 people a year suffer from lung cancer caused by radon. It is only through a radon measurement that you can detect the gas.

Radon is present in all types of buildings, so it is important to measure radon whether you live in an old or new house. High levels can be caused by building materials such as aerated concrete, a lightweight concrete that was banned from construction in 1975 because of its radon emissions. Radon can also penetrate through the ground via cracks in the foundation or via water and sewage.
